Most events are free of charge to the public, with many activities taking place at the Grand Hyatt Kaua`i Resort and Spa located in the Po`ipu Beach area of Kaua`i, unless otherwise noted in the event schedule. Kuku I kaKapa (Hawaiian cloth making) (teaching and demonstration)
`Anake Sabra Kauka is a Hawaiian studies teacher and cultural practitioner. Kauka coordinates the Dept. of Education Kaua`i Hawaiian Studies Kupuna. She will be creating a piece of kapa as well as having a “talk Story” session on the art. Wauke (paper Mulberry) is beaten into the cloth and the patterns are stamped onto the cloth. Listen and be inspired, as surfers, scientists, musicians and teachers share their perspectives and solutions for responsible living in an island environment.
2. “Then There Were None” Produced by Elizabeth Kapu`uwailani Lindsey. We present a showing of this distinguished documentary. This is not a story of blame. It is however, the story pf a people that have become strangers in their

Pa`akai (the art and culture of Hawaiian salt making) - “Talk-story” with Kupuna (elder, knowledgeable one), Janet Kehalekomo and her `ohana (family.) If you are touring on the west side of the island stop by Salt Pond Park on the Pu`olo Point (east) side of the park in Hanapepe and visit with `Anake Janet and `ohana as they share their family history and knowledge of salt cultivation on Kaua`i. Geneology - Geneology, (where do I begin); Title Guarantee; and Hawaiian Home Lands information by Lanakila Willard. Lanakila’s love for the Hawaiian people and culture was set deep inside her na`au (center) as she grew up on Moloka`i. Recognizing that the kupuna expect Native Hawaiians to return to their rightful place in the Hawaiian islands, she shares her knowledge to kokua (help) others in finding our way back to their `aina (land) and kuleana (responsibility.) Hula Kahiko (ancient dance) - The Story of Hula - chants and kinolau (plants) as they relate to hula kahiko with Lopaka Naka`ahiki Bukoski. Hula kahiko is not only the dance, kahiko entails chants, gathering plants (kinolau), and the creation of lei. The Practice of Lomilomi (teaching and demonstration) with Lopaka Naka`ahiki Bukoski. Lopaka is a haumana (student) of `Anake Mahilani Poepoe. Lomilomi is a combination of mana (energy), ha (breath), pule (prayer), and a pu`uwai (heart) that is connected, and focused in one-direction...toward healing. Lopaka will speak of this technique as well as it correlation with ho`oponopono. Grand Hyatt Kaua`i Resort and Spa at ANARA Spa.

La`au Lapa`au (medicinal uses of Hawaiian plants) with Momi Subiono. Momi, who is culturally driven, studies and teaches Ethobotany in the schools and community of South Kona. Nake`u Awai Fashion Show - after graduating from Ka-mehameha and receiving a BA from the University of Washington, Nake`u spent 15-years living and working in New York, Europe, Reno and Hollywood performing in the theater, television and casinos. For over 30-years he has been creating fashion and fashion shows with flair. We are proud to have Nake`u as part of the Prince Kuhio Celebration of the Arts. Please join us for a distinctive fashion show presented by one of Hawai`i’s esteemed designers.

9:15 PM:
Kaukahi - This musical group has won numerous Na Hoku Awards. The group is known for its blend of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music.

Opening ceremonies in celebration of Prince Kuhio’s birthday, includes protocol with makana (gifts) and Taiko Drummers. Grand Hyatt Kaua`i Resort and Spa, Seaview Terrace.

Cultural Demonstrations - numerous activities and Hawaiian cultural demonstrations. Presentations and lectures are given by some of Hawai`i's most prestigious weavers, carvers, feather arts, healing arts and kapa-makers. Grand Hyatt Kaua`i Resort and Spa, Seaview Terrace.

Please join Heifara Aiamu, Kalika Alves, Solomon Apio, Jack Churchill, Kekai Kapu, Anthony Natividad, Chuck Walker and Fred Zollinger and share the knowledge from these carvers of pohaku, (stone) la`au (wood), `ohe (bamboo), and ipu (gourds.) Prince Kuhio Celebration Lu`au. Grand Hyatt Kaua`i`s Lu`au in Celebration of Prince Kuhio’s birthday…E Komo Mai (Please join us). With respect for our ali`i (royalty) we will open the lu`au with a chant by Lopaka Naka`ahiki Bukoski; followed by a special guest performer, Nicky Castillo who will serenade you with his wonderful falsetto styling.
