Jeff Peterson and Chino Montero — two of the best guitar players in the state team for an evening of slack key. Chino Montero was the former lead guitarist for the Hawaiian band Palolo. He has performed and recorded with the best of Hawaii's artists. Peterson has contributed to two Grammy Award-winning recordings and has been honored with three Na Hōkū Hanohano Awards in Hawai`i. A Royal Dinner and Hawaiian Fashion Contest, offered at
Plantation Gardens restaurant, 2253 Po`ipu Road, Pa`u a Laka, Koloa

In celebration of Prince Kuhio, a special Hawaiian dinner including lau lau with fish, pork, beef, kalo and luau leaf plus rice, poi, jicama and tomato salad then topped off with haupia and sweet potato pie will be prepared at this popular and historic restaurant. A "special" cocktail will also be offered for the evening as well as the restaurant's extraordinary dinner selections. A roving Hawaiian duo will be on hand from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to entertain you with classic Hawaiian music. Guests are invited to dress in their finest Hawaiian attire. Enjoy a presentation by Lisa Yee, the author of two books based on the 2011 Girl Of The Year doll, Kanani Akina, who hails from a fictional town on Kauai's north shore. Yee will appear with Jennifer Hirsch, editor-in-chief at American Girl Publishing. Their presentations will focus on careers as writer and editor and the development of the Kanani project. Both will appear together to discuss their professional lives and careers, sharing secrets to becoming a best-selling author, where the ideas come from, how long it takes to write a book, who was inspirational and more. Yee will explain how she wrote the "Kanani" stories for American Girl, why Kaua'i was such an important choice for her location, and how Hawaiian monk seals came to play such a key role. Central subplots of both books about Kanani's life (
Aloha, Kanani and Good Job, Kanani) revolve around the rescue of an endangered Hawaiian monk seal from entanglement and a subsequent effort to raise money for seal awareness via a poster campaign. Both books will be available for purchase with proceeds going the the Kauai Monk Seal Watch program.

• Ho`oulana i ka lau niu (coconut frond weaving) demonstrations by Aunty Janet Kahalekomom & Ohana. The coconut was not only a source of food, but the trunk of the tree was used in making pahu (drum). Bowls, fans and carrying baskets were also made from its leaves. Items will be on sale
• Na Mea Hulu (feather work) demonstration and teaching by Mele. Learn how feathers were used to fashion decor and ornamentation. Create your own feather bracelet (fee).

Ho`okuina le pua (flower lei-making) demonstration and teaching. Learn how to string a lei out of flowers (no charge).
